1. Who we are
Petropolitan Museum is a sole proprietorship owned and operated by Eric Hollander, 971 US Highway 202N #8110, Branchburg, NJ 08876, USA. Questions about this policy go to contactus@petropolitanmuseum.com.
2. What we collect
- Email address, when you sign in to create a preview, and whether you ticked the box to hear from us (when ordering opens, or with news and offers).
- Photos you upload, plus anything you tell us about your pet: name, notes, the style and shape you chose. We use the photos only while your portrait is being painted and do not store them.
- The previews and portraits we create from those photos.
- Shipping details (name, address, and the phone number the carrier may need) when you order a physical product.
- Order history: what you bought, when, and its status.
- Payment confirmation from Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's secure page and never reach our servers.
- Technical data: your IP address (stored only as a one-way hash, to limit free previews per connection), browser type, and pages visited, via Google Analytics.
- Cookies: one sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for seven days, and the cookies Google Analytics sets.
3. How we use it
- To create your previews and portraits, and to deliver downloads and prints.
- To answer support requests and send order emails (confirmation, shipping notice). These are sent to everyone who orders.
- To tell you when ordering opens, or to send occasional news and offers, only if you ticked the box. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
- To enforce the free-preview limits and prevent abuse of the service.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it.
- To meet legal and tax obligations.
4. Who receives it
We share data only with the services that help us run Petropolitan Museum, and each one uses it only to provide its service to us:
- OpenAI, Anthropic and Replicate: receive your photos and pet details to generate the portrait. We do not keep the photos, but these services may retain what they receive for a limited time under their own terms (for example, to monitor for abuse).
- Printful: receives the finished artwork and your shipping details to print and ship physical orders.
- Stripe: processes payment and receives your email address for the receipt.
- Amazon Web Services: hosts the site, stores the previews and portraits we create, and delivers our email (Amazon SES).
- Google: Google Workspace for our mailbox and Google Analytics for site usage.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers. We may disclose it if the law requires it.
5. Finished portraits in our gallery and marketing
We show a finished portrait (the artwork we created, never your original photos) in our gallery, on social media or in other marketing only if you give us permission. You give it by ticking the box at checkout that reads "You may feature my finished portrait in the Petropolitan Museum gallery, on social media and in other marketing." The box starts unticked, and leaving it unticked changes nothing about your order.
We keep a record of your choice and when you made it. You can withdraw your permission at any time by emailing contactus@petropolitanmuseum.com. We will stop featuring your portrait and remove it from our gallery promptly, and we will not use it in anything new.
We never use your original photos for anything other than creating your portrait, unless you give us explicit written permission.
6. How long we keep it
- Uploaded photos: not stored by us. They are used while your portrait is painted and then discarded.
- Portraits you purchase: kept so you can download and re-order them, until you ask us to delete them.
- Previews you do not purchase: kept until you ask us to delete them, so you can come back to them. We may also delete old previews at any time.
- Email and order records: kept for as long as tax and accounting law require.
To delete a preview or portrait, email us and we will do it within a few business days.
7. Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from news and offers with the link in any such email. Order emails still arrive, because they are part of the service.
- Email us to see the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. We will respond within a few business days.
- California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information. To exercise these rights, email us.
- Our site does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals. You can block Google Analytics with your browser's settings or an extension.
8. Children
Petropolitan Museum is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to stored photos and portraits is restricted, and payments are handled entirely by Stripe. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be announced on the site.
